Minimum Wages in South Africa 2022
National Minimum Wages in South Africa 2022
Possibly you are searching for National Minimum Wages in South Africa 2022. South Africa has reviewed its Minimum Wages upward from R21.69 in 2021 to R23.19. This translates into an increase of 6.9% above the previous year’s minimum wage. The Minimum Wages in South Africa 2022 was released by Thulas Nxesi, the Labour Minister in a gazette which was published on February 07, 2022. This new minimum wage will be effective from March 01, 2022.
One thing that is unique about the Minimum Wages in South Africa 2022 is that there is no exception for any specific worker groups. This means that the new minimum wages will also apply to domestic workers and farm workers too. This is in line with the planned equalization drive in South Africa.
It should be noted that the national minimum wage does not include payment of allowances like transport, food, tools, accommodation, payments in kind, tips, bonuses, and gifts. It is the amount that is payable to workers for the ordinary hours of work.
In arriving at the new Minimum Wages in South Africa 2022, certain factors were taken into consideration by the National Minimum Wage Commission. And these include the gross domestic product of the country, inflation rate, the cost of living, the ability of the employers’ business to sustain the payment, employees’ productivity among others.
In summary, the new South Africa national minimum wage is R23.19 for each ordinary hour worked.
- Farmworkers are entitled to a minimum wage of R23.19 per hour
